Oral and Visual history Project In Little Jamaica
That captures stories from community leaders in Little Jamaica with a podcast series produced by local youth through a skill-building STEAM program during the summer of 2023.
Out of the Archiving Black Futures – Little Jamaica pilot project came a podcast series and interactive sidewalk decals showcased on the streets on Eglinton West.
01
Community
The creation of the Soulful Echoes pilot podcast was a collaborative dialogue between members of the Little Jamaica community from all walks of life, youth interested in creative storytelling, and professional artists.
02
podcast
The podcast that emerged from this project is Soulful Echoes: Resonating Roots of Likkle Jamaica. A passionate exploration about what is at the heart of the Little Jamaica neighbourhood and the impact felt by the pervasive changes within the area.
03
Public Art
The release of this project also includes public art in the form of illustrated sidewalk decals that connect back to the Soulful Echoes podcast. These decals capture the sights and sounds of what makes Little Jamaica as iconic as it is.
